Book Review: Gone Girl

Gone GirlGone Girl by Gillian Flynn

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow, what to say about this book? First, it's unlike anything else that I've read. This isn't your typical girl meets boy love story--quite the antithesis. I can't say too much without spoiling it. Suffice it to say, don't try to figure it out. It's a novel full of mind games that the characters take you on. Many times, I would read a seemingly simple statement and then I'd have to double back and re-read it. Did s/he really say that? What does that mean? If you're looking for a roller coaster of a book, this is a really great one.

Now, why did I only give it 4 stars if I loved it so much? Well, like some other reviewers, the ending was not what I'd expected. Some may find it satisfactory but I didn't. However, these are not my characters and it's the author's choice what she does with them. I would love to see any alternate endings that she wrote. I bet they would be just as gritty and mind-blowing like the rest of the book.

I read this book a few weeks ago. At first I wasn't sure I'd even finish it. The language was too raw for my taste, but the story got me hooked. Did you know there is a movie in the works?

Yes, the language it definitely rough. I don't care for it, but to be honest, it probably is realistic (although the story itself wasn't lol--I hope!). I didn't know there was a movie being made. That ought to be interesting!
